If you are a Christian and consistently read the Bible, you will know that Paul raised the issue on who has control over our bodies most especially our hair. He refers to nature but not of fashion or law. This is taken from 1 Corinthians 11:2-16. 2 I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the traditions just as I passed them on to you. 3 But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God. 4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head–it is the same as having her head shaved. 6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. 7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. 8 For the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man. 9 Neither was the man created for the woman, but the woman for the man. 10 For this, cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12 For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman but all things of God. 13 Judge in yourselves, is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? 14 Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him. 15 But if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering. 16 But if any man seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.
This makes one reflect if we do really have control over our own bodies. Does God have the power over it? Are we shaming God if we do something about it, such as piercing our earrings or having tattoos? Is that what Paul was trying to convey? Are men and women really that different just as what Paul said? Does hair has a very special meaning?
There are rallies and movements around the old claiming that women need empowerment. That women deserve to be given more rights. But if you consider what Paul said, there is nothing that women can do about it. He claims that women are women and men are men.
When we look at the religious side of it, Paul suggested that each of us are unique beings. We should honor our Creator and respect Him by taking good care of our own bodies. We should be grateful to Him for giving us distinctive traits.
On the other side of the argument is that we each have our own minds and we are free to groom our body on our own preferences. Biblical talks are merely hypocritical.
Have you tried to ponder about this once in your life? This issue is not talked by many since we are too consumed on our own lives. Let us talk about this now. What do you think about what Paul said?
